Leg Pocket Design Sketches

I'm getting ready to make prototypes of the leg-pockets, and was considering a variety of options for making the pocket tighter or looser as needed.

Initially I was thinking of side lacing, which I think would give me the most room for making adjustments. The only thing was, keeping that side panel free of laces would give the pocket a cleaner look.

Front-lacing would keep the side panel clean. This could look pretty sexy.
Or maybe (for the cleanest possible look) no lacing at all...?

  1. For some reason, I keep thinking there should be a piece joining two of these, exposing the buttocks, kind of a "leg and butt bolero" The adjoining piece should be short enough to keep the wearer from closing their knees together. I could picture the wearer being able to escape these as designed, without additional strapping the part in front of the thighs.

I like #1 the best. #3 has a little too much "blank canvas"

  2. Awesome stuff!

Technical question: if I am going to stitch something like the Minelli side (chrome tan cow, 2-2.5mm, afaik), what size and type of thread should I use? Needle size? Stitch length? This is going to be for a folded seam, or whatever the right word is ... stitching layers with the 'right' sides together to make something that will then be inverted.

It's just going to be a pad (for a wrap-around wrist restraint), where no hand or foot is going inside it. Sew 3 sides, invert, foam, sew it shut. Should I still glue down the seam allowances on the 3 first seams?

This is on a Nakajima 280L that I picked up cheap. I think it's a litte heavier than your Artisan machines? Equivalent to a Juki 241H, afaik.

I did make something from one of your patterns on my regular "home" machine. I'm eager to send you a picture, but I haven't had a chance to get a girl of the right size to model it for me just yet! To be continued ...

    1. apullin, I'm using a #69 bonded nylon thread usually, made for sewing leather. The needle I use is a Schmetz size #20, and the stitch length is around 8 stitches per inch.

From what you describe, I would probably fold down the seam allowance. It can actually strengthen the piece, because you are bonding those layers together. It also makes it less likely to shift around when you invert it and put the foam inside.

Would love to see what you've been working on. You can always reach me directly at christopherfetish(at)gmail.com.
