Asylum Hood - Pics by Karen Hsiao

I am loving these shots Karen sent over of the asylum hood on Ginger... Thanks to both of them for letting me share.

  1. Looks okay but I do think the color should be changed (if possible). Maybe in black. As it is, it look functional but a little dull.

  2. I disagree. There is so much black out there. This looks like it was made to do a job.

  3. Thanks for the comments, it's something new for me to do this kind of color. I have to admit, whenever I do something in brown or red, I want to see what a black version would look like as well. But this color is really pretty and rich, and it has a totally different feel than it would in black. Plus, I love how it picks up on the color of Ginger's hair.

  4. For me (and MANY others), black helps hide blemishes and errors, using something like this looks clinical and precise, it really shows and amplifies your workmanship. Cudos you to you man! I'm a long way off of doing this kind of thing.

    1. LOl, yes -black may hide some sins... Visually, it can help things "disappear".

I am usually trying for a sort of perfection with client pieces, but for my own personal stuff (and this particular project for Karen) I like including the "defects" because they can give the thing a unique personality - emphasizing the one-of-a-kind nature of a hand made object. Plus, the leather itself has a history, and the more it's used, the more the story of it's use in embedded in the object. I love that quality of leather.

    1. Thanks for the comment! This is not a pattern I plan to make available, as it's a one-off commissioned piece. Sorry...
